Premier 7's to go Ahead

Beachmere Sands Premier League in Queensland has decided to continue with its Premier 7's competition for 2009 despite a request from Bowls Super Challenge Queensland to shelve the new concept.

The Premier 7's will be introduced at the same time of year as the Beachmere Sands Premier League and will be open to all clubs and players in South East Queensland in the first year (from Gold Coast to Sunshine Coast and west to Dalby).

Comprising of Singles, Pairs and Fours, the event will have separate men's, women's and open competitions which will be graded via the current pennant system. One section will cater for any pennant division players, a second section will cater for division 2, 3 and/or 4th division bowlers and a third section will cater for 5, 6, 7 and/or 8th division bowlers. Special requests from smaller clubs will be considered by the controlling body in regard to grading.

Chairman Jim Adams is excited with the new concept for Queensland bowlers, stating that “the new concept will suit both small and large clubs alike and give the keen and competitive club bowler the opportunity to play in a competition that does not require rounding up 10 or 12 bowlers in an under strength club". We offer this competition to all clubs as an opportunity to be part of the organisation (Premier League Queensland) which was formed to play bowls, have fun playing the sport we all enjoy and the times set for matches to be played will be agreed too by the clubs. Premier League is managed by the majority of the states leading bowlers and administrators who understand working and family commitments, this comp will be special in many ways not the least its enjoyment but its cost to play.

Application forms and conditions of play will be released in the near future for all clubs and players to then have a choice, without restrictions, of which competition they would like to play.

Beachmere Sands Premier League welcomes Greenslopes Bowls Club to their competition for the 2009 season after their application was accepted at last nights meeting. Greenslopes is one of the emerging clubs in Queensland Bowls with many new recruits strengthening the club. State Triples father and son duo Jeff and Ben Twist will play for the club after a year at Beachmere, Queensland representative Ian Law has made the move from Wynnum Manly Leagues and many district reps from the metro area have also joined. The Greenslopes "Geckos" promise to be a force in the 2009 competition making the league even stronger.

A number of clubs have expressed an interest in joining and are currently considering their move to the Beachmere Sands Premier League which will expand to a maximum 20 teams in 2009. An elite fours competition boasting four Australian Squad members, more than 80% of the current Queensland mens team and all but one of the Queensland Under 25 side, the league continues to grow and provides a club competition unmatched in the State.
